Shepard Fairey

**Frank Shepard Fairey** (born February 15, 1970) is an American contemporary [street artist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_artist "Street artist"), [graphic designer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphic_designer "Graphic designer"), [activist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activist "Activist"), [illustrator](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illustrator "Illustrator") and founder of [OBEY (clothing)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBEY_(clothing) "OBEY (clothing)") who emerged from the [skateboarding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skateboarding "Skateboarding") scene. He first became known for his “ [Andre the Giant Has a Posse](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_the_Giant_Has_a_Posse "Andre the Giant Has a Posse")” (…OBEY…) sticker campaign while attending the [Rhode Island School of Design](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhode_Island_School_of_Design "Rhode Island School of Design") (RISD), which appropriated images from the comedic supermarket tabloid _[Weekly World News](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weekly_World_News "Weekly World News")_.
